Roads and typical drive time
The usual route follows I-595 east to US-1/Federal Highway, then continues to the 17th Street Causeway and A1A. Some drivers use Las Olas Boulevard east to A1A instead. The distance is roughly seven miles. Off-peak transfers often arrive in 25 minutes. During winter season and spring break, the same trip can take 45 minutes or more.
Traffic reality and when to add buffer
A1A along the beach gets crowded on weekends and during events. The 17th Street Causeway drawbridge and the Las Olas Boulevard bridge can open for boats and stop traffic. Beachgoer traffic peaks from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Add 15 to 20 minutes during those windows. Hotel valet lines on A1A can also delay the final drop-off.
Vehicle options and pricing
Sedan service from FLL to Fort Lauderdale Beach starts at $130. SUVs start at $160 and are useful for families with beach gear or multiple large suitcases. Sprinter vans and executive SUVs are available by request. Tolls and parking are added when they apply.
Who books this route
Vacationers heading to beachfront hotels make up most of the demand. The International Swimming Hall of Fame at 1 Hall of Fame Drive and Hugh Taylor Birch State Park at 3109 E Sunrise Boulevard are two local landmarks drivers use as reference points. The beachfront runs parallel to State Road A1A from Sunrise Boulevard south toward Las Olas.
